If I had to go back to my earliest influences with fish tanks it would be with Goldfish in tanks with big airstones and falling asleep with the light on staring at it. I really think I could say that. Now it's reefs!!!

Did you ever keep Goldfish? :goldfish:

I "rescued" 4 goldfish from the animal sanctuary where I used to work. They were supposed to have been crocodile food, but the croc didn't go for them. They've been living in a planted 20 long in my classroom for almost 4 years now.
Dirty, filthy fish...but real easy to catch and use as live model of fish anatomy.

I was a turtle guy. I had 2 red eared sliders that I watched grow from loonie size to 8 to 10 inches across. they even moved around with me when I went to Collage. But I donated them to a childrens zoo when I moved to the West coast. Now just Reef for me

I did freshies for several years before losing my shirt in the saltwater world but never kept goldfish. They always seemed too boring :)

 Maybe not but I did have a little plastic sign that said "Topless Beach".

And in case you didn't know, the only time girls are interested in pirate stuff is when Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom are involved

Like Marc, I too started with guppies and mollies.

    No goldfish though.

The one thing that stands out in my mind way back then was watching the female guppies give birth. Cool stuff!

I wonder if the female guppy feels the same way

One thing that kept me from keeping guppies for too long was the fact that the males chase the females around relentlessly to mate, even when the females are already pregnant! It used to stress me out for whatever strange reason :)
