i have always wondered the same. and have found another site a while ago that was for a 175 watt system for about $120. i was going to do that but decided not to as i am going to step up on my tank and i would of wanted to go to a 250 watt or beter. but i dont see why this wont work. when i get my new tank i know i will try it.

Thats about what i have at home, not using them right now, waiting to build up my 120gal, but they work great. I didnt build them but i bought them on ebay for 90$ each, oh yeah there 250W 10 000K. So for 90$ i got the ballast in a casing, the bulb, socket and a huge reflector. its a plug and play. When i got it screwed in the bulb, pluged it in and voila, 500W of MH for 180$... wwwoooohhoooo.
