I would think 800W would be more than sufficient...how cool is your room temp? What heaters are you using? And why are you heating to 27? 25 would be a "better" temperature IMO.

    27 ? Sorry typo it's 24, not 27.
I wanted to be able to not run the heaters full blast.
I was hoping I could select 25 and that be the temp, right now they are as high as they will go and they are only reaching 24..............
The AC is running at 22 but that's normal, I still need to get it up there a bit, I think another Hydor 400 will be ok ? Your thoughts ?

The problem is probably measuring temperature in Centigrade.

? I am from England, centigrade isn't any different that f, so long as your consistent with either "or" the other.

How old are the heaters? How do you have the your overflows and sump inlets setup? I am suspecting you are seeing a lot of evaporation from these, which is cooling your tank. 800W should be able to heat up that amount of water 2-3 degrees C. Either that or the heaters could just be under performing for some reason.

My overflows are both at one end, the flow from overflow is approx 1900 gph.
Evaporation has been approx 16 gallons in 7 days.

What drains do you use? Stockman or Durso? Or something else that allows the water to waterfall down?

That's what I thought I remembered your drains being :-/ Doing this is causing a lot of evaporation (and probably quite noisy). Look into installing some new stockman or durso style drains. This should help with keeping your tank warmer, and quieter, even though I think you said noise wasn't an issue.

The noise really isn't noticable, I am going to look at re vamping the plumbing, I want to aim the over into some filter socks in the sump, so I will need to do that anyway.

Can I make the Durso stands 5 or 6 inches lower than the water level,in the tank ? ? ? ? Won't the standing water n the overflow be stagnant water after a while ? 30 inches deep ?
