Anyone ever ebay and get the cheap halide bulbs on there. Are they really any different than the name brand that are 4 times as much.

From my own exsperience, yes they aren't worth buying.I bought a $30 ebay bulb and it quickly lost it's color spectrum and only lasted a total of about 3months before it would no longer fire.I put my old 14k pheonix back in and it looked way better in comparison even though it was over two years old.

With a generic outlet like ebay, one can easily get a poorly-made copy of most anything; the old rule, "you get what you pay for" applies well with this hobby. One should really try to stay with name brands from reputable retailers.
