This one is a male. Unfortunately it's dorsal fin is not up. This is an amazing fish. I waited 2 years before I got this guy and he has been in my take for about 4 months now. He has taken to Mysis and Brine. But he is always hunting. He has doubled in size since I purchased him.

Mandarins should only be kept in a well established aquarium preferably over 75 gallons in size with a large copepod population as that is it's main diet, and may not accept other forms of food ............. John

I agree with Fletch. That is why I waited almost 2 1/2 year before getting one

I would try and take it back to the store or find someone with a large well established tank

mandarins might accept brine shrimp and other shrimps but this cannot be the sole basis of it's diet. that is why a healthy pod popullation which a 50 lb LR or more can accomodate. Buried PVC or LR aid pods to populate. As what everyone said, a mature tank (a year old minimum) is required. Otherwise the mandarin will go starve and die.
