Like the title says, the random, contant bubbles by the air pulled in by the vortex has been a problem- especially when the it's clean and pulling max water.

The thinker I am, I cut up this samll lastic cup I got from work- it's used for collecting sterile urine samples, and yes, I did use a new, clean one.

I covered the top portion of the intake that causes the vortex from the surface- viola- no more bubbles!
By only cover about a 1/4, I think the over area flow more and makes up for the same output- seems to be. Still much better, no more random bubbles!

Awesome Todd! It's funny that the DIYers always seem to find the most random things to use to make things better. Everything I see I wonder what I can use it for in my tank.
    Great fix Todd.

Very nice Todd. I could actually benefit from something like this. Is it affecting flow much?

Does not seem to be. There certainly is no cavitation of the propeller or anything like that.
I think it just pulls more from the open areas to make up for it.

I've been thinking of just taping the upper slots closed with electrical tape actually, but never did and put the piece of plastic instead.

Plastic definitely is the better route. Glad to hear it is working out Todd.
