I have an issue with my water. I have 2 demsels and 3 firefishes which have been living fine for months.

Thank has been running for 5 months now. However, I recently had a Blenny die and 2 clown fishes die on me as well as a shrimp. I got myself a Kenya tree yesterday which seems to be all closed up. From what I have read online, Kenya trees will stay closed if water quality is bad.

I have checked my ph which is about 8.5 and nitrate, nitrite, ammonia are all at Zero. Temperature at 82.

I'm running a wet Magna 350 pump with a skimmer.

Am I missing something here??? What should I check and what should I change?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks

    Water change schedule?

    Your skimmer ever pull alot?

    Salinity?

Any signs of disease on dead fish?

is your temp 82 all the time, or does it creep higher than that?

Dissolved o2 decreases as temp goes up... depeining on the size of your tank, your fish might be suffocating. Thats all i can think of, unless like Devin is getting at, your test kits could be bad, and you could have some ammonia. Check it against a fish stores and see what happens

water change every month in a 55 gallon tank (which i forgot to mention earlier)

skimmer pulls only about quarter inch a month

    salinity is right on

dead fish that i pulled werent diseased. fishes in there look healthy.

i am lowering the temp right now !

what is "right on" for salinity? have you added anything to the tank recently? rocks, toy airplane, new powerhead? have you started dosing anything recently?

what size tank, sounds like no air to the fish if one pump is all you have and the tank has any size to it no air means death to the tank, increase cirulation on the top of the water to release gas and increase oxygen in the water, at night oxygen will fall alot you have to maintain cirulation for the health of the coral and fish

Update? a little more flow and surface agitation always helps.

Thanks for following up on this thread. I brought the water to local pet shop and the water came out to be just fine. I lowered the temp and added more oxygen to the tank as recommended. I have not had any dead fish since. All the fishes that I have now are pretty hardy. But I may go pick up new fishes and see how they will do in the tank.
