    Hi all,
I removed hair algae from the top piece of live rock in my tank and when the moon lights came on I realized there is now something on the rock that's glowing (bioluminescent?). I've looked around and couldn't ID it anywhere. Any ideas?

Red-ish algae on rock that was under hair algae.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
This has happened to me with a couple different algae. They always died right afterwards.

    Following for a real ID.

I had something like these also and the closest ID I ever got was a type of wiry red hair algae.

    That's actually kinda cool haha

I could be completely wrong but could It be Pyrocystis fusiformis, it's a dinofallanget that can cause something called red tide.....

No, if that's what it is, I would definitely go lights out and point a power-head or two towards the surface, in addition to adding an air stone.

There is a powerhead pointed at it, but I'm assuming all the green hair algae was protecting it.

I will give the lights out a shot

It is a type of coralline algae. The glowing part is new growth. Hermits and Emeralds will eat it. Emeralds are more likely to do damage to it.

No, it will not cause red tide, and red tide does not happen in a tank, as far as I know. lol
