I was at a guys house recently, and he showed me the difference in PAR with and without glass tops. There was a surprisingly insignificant difference.

I didn't get to do much research on it, but unless the glass is tinted or covered in some kind of salt creep or something, (or still has the black strip on it) I can't really understand how it could make a huge difference. But I've never tested it out, so I don't know.

How thick the glass is and what kind of lighting being used will make a significant difference for that test. Glass blocks blue wavelengths more than red/green wavelengths. So for metal halide (higher in green and red wavelengths than leds or t5) on a par meter (which also over reads red and green) the par won't show much reduction.

The iron in the glass that also gives it a green tint is the main reducer (same reason people use starfire glass)
