You could use a 12v float switch connected to a 12v battery air pump to regulate the amount of water going into your tank.

Works the same as the water pump to float switch ATO but instead of a 12v water pump, use a 12v air pump. As long as it doesn't cause a siphon, you'd have to make sure that the jug was at the same level or lower than the tank.

gotta say that the simplicity is what I like about it. you could take it a step further and gravity feed through a needle or something and establish a constant drip rate. seeing as how evap is constant, I think its pretty much fail proof. figure rate of evap and tune the replacement to match. nice idea.

its very creative i like it! .......on a side note, if that anenome gets killed or badly damaged by that intake it spells disaster. ive seen anenomes wipeout entire fishstore systems (approx. 12 20gals plus sump).... anyways, so if the top off fills to the tip of the waterline, the top pops on the jug ending the top off?

A screw on top or duck tape might work for the top poping off and for the controling how much water enters you could get a timer for the air pump.

the top "pops" it the pressure gets to be too much for thr jug to handle
