I'm trying to design my new sump better than my first one. For me, the hardest part is getting the water INTO the sump in such a way that there's no salt spray to deal with.

I was just checking out Melev's site; I like his rock-filled bubble tower idea.

Does anyone have a design they'd like to share??

    You might try this...
This is what I ended up going with, and with a bit of a modification.
The "breather" tube, I crimped it... I did this is an effort to lower the sound of bubbles even more so. It works well IMO.

I like both of those. Nice and simple.

Fuzzball, where did you find that design - or is your own? Any further details on the mods you did?

Luna - is the top of that horizontal pipe drilled at all? It looks like just the bottom. Pretty quiet?

Its pretty quiet, its not 100% quiet, it could be alot worse. As far as the horizontal pipe, yes only the bottom. There is 8 pairs of holes drilled in two different angles.

    It's a design I found somewhere else.
No other mods though. It works well, i get very few bubbles coming into my sump with about 600gph coming through a 1" pipe, then increased to a 1 1/4.

If I did it again, I'd probably increase the size by a half inch, instead of just a quarter.

Fuzzball, I'm getting a lot of bubbles here. I'm using 1" - 1 1/4" pipe like you are, and my flow is only about 320gpm. Does the waterline on yours reflect what's shown in the diagram? That's about the only thing I can think of to mess around with.

Luna - I think I'll whip up one of your devices and try it out as well. Is that 1 1/4", or 1 1/2"? What's your GPM, and what size are those eight pairs of holes? Also, do you feel that the filter media under is is essential to the design, or could I just have the holes right below the waterline?

    Thanks to you both!
