GE's new interchangeable LED modules coming in early 2010 will have profound affects in the LED industry that will no doubt trickle down to aquarium LED fixtures. These modules allow the end-user to update their LED lights by simply untwisting the old one and replacing with a new one. Beyond being able to perform performance upgrades, this also means that you can replace an LED due to mechanical failure without having to replace the entire fixture.

Furthermore, the GE Luminaire supports 'modules with varying color temperatures, beam angles and light levels' in addition to a wattage adustable switch!

...Allows you to change from 6w to 8w to 10w LED output! I've personally been blinded by 3w LEDs - I can't imagine how bright a 10w LED is. 8)

Wow, my first though was that tese would be completely impractical for a tank because of their size -- you'd never be able to get enough of them over the tank. Then I saw the wattage rating. Hmmm, 10 W, that just might work.

    Yeah - 10 watts!!!

To people not familiar with LEDs much that might think that is a low wattage - in the LED world that would actually CRANK out light. 8)

EDIT - Also, an aquarium fixture could be made that would house several of these LEDs with the twist off feature.

I have a 3W LED flashlight from surefire that I use in the military. It's actually classified as a personal defense weapon because you can temporarily blind someone with it. These lights are gonna be BRIGHT!
