If you have ever been curious what a Sun Systems PAR meter tops out at, it is 2890. We managed to hit that ceiling quickly several times while torturing the meter under a Gavita Pro 300 LEP plasma fixture recently. It was not very nice to put one directly under the lamp. Even at several inches down it hit 943. At approximately 2.5' it was at 272. The Gavita LEP is a 300 watt fixture with a 30,000 hour Luxim bulb producing 18,000 lumens with a CRI of 94. Available now. Just remember to move those corals down.

    2890? Yikes.

    Gavita Pro 300 LEP Details:
    • The Gavita Pro 300 LEP produces light with a spectrum similar to that of the sun. The full light spectrum even includes UVB.
    • The Gavita Pro 300 LEP is a solid state horticultural plasma light fixture. There are no moving parts in the fully sealed housing, improving reliability.
    • The light source is a LUXIM STA 41.02 LiFi module which has an average life of 30,000 hours.
    • The Miro Aluminum reflector generates an even square light pattern. Comes with high quality glass filter.
    • Color Rendering Index is 94 and temperature is 5600°K.
    • Housing sealed with Gor-Tex ventilation plug.
    • Coverage area at 1' distance is 3' x 3' and at 1' 4" distance is a 4' x 4' coverage area.
    • 18,000 lumens, ppf 300 µmol/s. This is a 300 watt fixture with 1.25 amps at 240 Volts. Suitable for 120-240 Volt.
    • 16' cord with Wieland RST and NEMA 6-15 plug.
    • Fixture dimensions: 23.3" long x 10.3" wide x 7.5" high.

Nice Matt, what would you consider the kelvin spectrum to e. 10k-12k?

It appeared that way but it actually is 5600k. Didn't look like that to the eye though. Under water it probably does though. They are working on a model with a higher color spectrum. Until then, actinic required.

That makes sense. I wonder what the limitation there may be on these light with color spectrum. Can't wait for Trent to get a couple lol

Yeah but this should last about 10-15 years before you need to replace anything. 1300 barely covers MH bulbs let alone the fixture, and MH are not dimmable.

I predict this taking over the halide share of our hobby over the next few years if they can manipulate and replicate quality spectrum.

Whoa dude. You are exaggerating right?

    30,000 hour bulb / 24 hours / 365 days = 3.4 years.

$1300 is a LOT of halide bulbs. I paid $40 recently for my 150w 14k.

    Just sayin. :)

    It's more like 30,000 hour bulb / 9 hour light schedule / 365 = 9.13 years.

So, most seem to replace MH after 9 months - (correct me if I'm wrong) so = 12.173 bulb replacements - (radium is my bulb of choice BRS price = $81.99) So call it 12 bulb replacements = $983.88 in bulbs over that time period

And the reflector - the best one I'm aware of - $150

    And a Ballast - $155

For a total of $1288.88 - And the power savings hasn't even been calculated into this.. So they are equal in cost before considering these run MUCH cooler and are much more efficient. IF, the fixture itself lasts as long as the bulb.

Ahhh touche my friend! Good point on light schedule. As for the rest I guess milage varies a bit but that is still a good way to look at it. Just have to add in the price of actinics to blue this thing out. ;)

I was using 30000 as a conservative estimate (bulbs usually last longer, and with an 8 hour 'peak'. I was also pricing Radiums with shipping.

Matt, we need to talk about your 24 hour lighting schedule.......
