thank you everyone... im pretty sure that I am going to go with separate setup also as that does sound like a smarter choice anyways

    Definitely seperate
unless your 100% certain you dont have any issues in your DT
and that you are either going to QT any new purchases for the DT or not make any further stocking to the DT, aside from what you propogate from the frag tank

a seperate independant system, does give you a feeling of confidence, as the chances of any problem occuring in both at the same time are remote
in which case in an emergency , you have alternative housing available for your live stock

I dont mind having it plumped all together, the larger the system the easier it is to take care of it. More rock and less hardware (skimmer, controller etc....)

This is a great question, but the answer depends on what one is fragging. If you plan on fragging out your display tank, then a frag tank on the same system seems like the way to go. But, if you plan on buying other corals and fragging them, then a separate frag tank would be desired so that the DT isn't threatened. But, one could frag out purchased pieces in a frag tank that is on the same system as the DT so long as the frags are dipped and quarantined in advance (the same as when a responsible reefer adds anything new to their DT). Also, I would recommend dipping and quarantining before adding to a separate frag system because you run the risk of harming all of your valuable frags by not doing so.

    Just my fraggin' thoughts :)

Both my DT and frag tank water parameters are the same. To minimize the need to acclimate.
