hey everybody... im just wondering what your preference on a frag tank is:

    1. connected to the tank to give more stability/maturity
    2. on its own system incase anything happens to your DT and to isolate them incase something goes wrong with one tank or the other.

I am going to be setting one up in a few weeks and I am kinda leaning towards its own separate system even though it wont initially be as mature as the DT. I think this is the best because I may use the frag/growout tank as a QT occasionally since it will be much much easier that way

I'd do mine as a completely separate tank

I have mine on its own. I would always recommend having them on their own system just in case something happens in either tank. Its easier to replace stuff when you only lose part of your coral collection.

i would do somewhat like a little bit of both..
i would set it up maybe with everything from the DT.. like take water and maybe some pieces of rock and sand from the DT and place them in the Frag tank,
and then have it isolated from the other tank.

however If i cant do that, then ill just start from scratch and have it isolated anyways, same reasons as stated above.

I've seen them set up both ways and each has its points. If you are setting up the frag tank as a repository for your corals in case of trouble then definitely separate is the way to go. I would do the same if you are thinking of the frag tank as part of a business. After typing all of this I have now decided that separate is the way to go.:-[

I just finished the ultimate 'ghetto' grow out system. All Sterilite totes, odds, ends and other parts I had laying around. Has the main grow out, chaeto farm, remote kitty litter dsb, ATS and a Berghia Farm. Filling it with RO/DI right now. Had to go with a 0 $ budget since I lost my job two weeks ago.
