    I have a 30 breeder (36" x 18" x 12") that I'm going to use as a frag tank.

What would be my best choice for lighting this tank? I do plan on fragging SPS. If anyone has a specific fixture recommendation that would be welcome as well.

Will it be plumbed into your main tank?

Yes it is and heat added to this tank will add to the main system (or force me to get a chiller in which case I would be running a chiller on my frag tank, what a bonus).

If you are worried about the heat, then I would go with a 6 but TEK fixture or equivalent. Personally, I would use a pair of 175MHs running 10Ks.

+1 on the 175 Metal Halides. I perfer the 20k myself, just for grow out only I've heard good results in the 10 - 14k spectrum

if you want growth then go with the halides... the general rule of thumb is that the closer to 6500k the bulb is, the faster the growth will be, however that is not true for every coral. Some corals use a photosystem that thrives from a very blue wavelength. going with a 10k bulb with a tiny bit of actinic or 14k would be best for encompassing growth of all corals
