    ;D :D ;) :) 8) :p

I have a fluval canister filter and I have carbon and foam pads and ceramic rings. I'm starting a reef aquarium and i just wanted to know If I should change some of the things in my canister filter. I have nitrates in my tank. so I was just wondering.

I would not use the fluval if you want a canister I would look into an Ehiem

I would think putting sand in your canister will damage it by clogging the impeller. Even if you put it in panty hose, I think it will get out.

I lied. I do have a Fluval. But I only use it when I run Carbon. I have no effective way to move water through carbon at the time. Well I still don't but have plans to add a system to my new sump.

i have one too and no longer use it on my salt tank. it seemed to rocket my amonia and nitrate level through the roof even after water changes. i put it on my fresh water tank and have no problems there.

i have also been told that with live rock and a skimmer that a filter system, hangon or canister, is no longer required
