This may be a stupid question, but here goes. I am looking at a light fixture to purchase and the one i'm looking at is a 48". But, under the dimensions it says that it is 54.8" long, which sounds like it would be too long. The 36" option is 43.1" long. Btw, my 55g is the standard 48" long

It will fit fine. They make it to where the light covers completely on the sides. Its meant for the tank you have. It should also take 54 watt bulbs

The reason you are seeing a discrepancy is the legs can be slid in or out but as stated it will be perfect.
