I was reading a thread a few weeks ago that said mandarins can't get ich, are there other fish that can't ? Was this true information?

I have zero intentions of getting a mandarin or anyfish for that matter, and I actually have no experience with ich, this is just an out of curiosity question, how come they can't get it?

i think mandarins can get ick but not usually because of their slime coat

i think they can but it is a lot harder for them to actually get it..

am assuming it has to do with the way their scales/slime coat are built and the parasite cant really attach to the fish.

im not aware of any actual fish that cannot contract ich and we can actually have in an aquarium.

even sharks can get ich but its very rare i believe; i say rare because sharks are usually in aquariums with good care, but if you have a shark and bring in like an ich infected angel then i think they can get it so there really isnt anything that can't get ick

I once had a 7 inch Bala Shark and it was covered in ich. Luckily, i knew what to do and cleared that up with only one fish dying.. a tiger barb.

Not especially relevant to mandarins, always a good review.

Marine Ich - Myths and Facts

The correlation between fish less susceptable to marine ich is the idea that they are " scaleless fish" (mandarins, blennies, puffers..), when under stress all fish can succumb to ich.
