Please help. I bought a clown fairy wrasse and a red firefish a week ago. Both have been eating fine. The fairy came down with ich a few days ago, then it went away the following day. Now it's back and it's back bad. He's on the sandbed gasping for air. The red firefish has a tiny amount of ich but seems ok.

What can I do ASAP? I'm hoping the fish store is open tomorrow.

    Please help.

Move them to a QT ASAP. Get some medicine as quickly as you can.

You could try a freshwater dip if he is gasping for air, that will stress the fish, but also remove any parasites preventing it from getting any oxygen. I would only go this route if you feel he wont make it the night.

After that, return the fish you bought, and leave your tank fishless for 6 weeks to starve out the remaining parasites in your system. And in that time you can get a quarantine tank setup for any new additions so you never have to go through this again.

I don't have a quarantine tank. If I do a "freshwater dip", how exactly does one do that?

I did the dip. He's back on the sandbed and a ness snail is attacking him... he's too exhausted to get away. It looks like this might be the end of my clown fairy.

    God damnit.

Dipped him for 3 mins. The white spots were gone after the dip but his colors are paled out from the shock. He's still gasping on the bottom.
