I didn't know about the color shift...that's pretty neat.

The description has got me as well...it sounds like there is algae or something growing on the coral?

Do you (OP) have any venomous livestock in the aquarium, such as nudibranches or lionfish/scorpion fish? Running carbon would be a good idea.

sorry for the delay fellas! i appreciate the advice. My carbon is due for a change and maybe i'll change my GFO as well. I have them in a canister i turned into a reactor since it was just sitting around. hopefully my tank doesn't crash! the fish and the shrimp i guess i can replace but the corals hurt more if they start to perish i've enjoyed watching them grow.

That's a high salinity for my tank. I keep it at about 1022. Lfs agrees that salinty should be betweem 1021-1023. Good luck. Sorry for your losses I know it's tough!

you might check for stray voltage. i have had malfunctioning pumps and powerheads that drove my temp up.

Personally I like to keep my salinity at 1.026/35ppm as well.

That's the coral I mentioned. The color is fine. The mouth dosn't look good though. Did you check your parameters again? You may want to retest ammonia again with a different test kit, or take it to an LFS. Also, that substrate is pretty coarse for a Fungia. Their tissue can get damaged by sharp rocks and such and result in infections.

Great point, this would certainly explain everything.

that salinity should be fine. i keep mine between 1.024 and 1.026. i think 1.022 is fine for a fish only but not a reef tank.
