Yeah, another 1/16" makes a difference in flexibility. Its working out fine though. I definitely wouldn't go any thicker unless it was a larger tank.

Ok a couple more pics. One side is attached and drying. I only have four of those clamps so I have to let that dry before I can move on. And yes, I go a bit overboard on the nails but with the thick paint i'm using they will cover right up so the more the merrier.

Ok, 3 more pics of the other side nailed/glued on. It's coming out better than I imagined! In a couple hours I can fasten the lid back on the the rest of the canopy and test fit it once more before sanding and painting.

Looking good you could have gone with the kerfing technique as well that way you can use 3/4" oak or poplar some really nice grains.

Yeah it definitely is going to be very nice! I don't blame you at all for going overkill on nails! If 'A' is strong and 'B' is stronger I always go for 'C'. Can't go wrong with a little overdoing somethings imo. ;D

kerfing (relief cuts) is making saw cuts roughly half to three quarters of the way through the board , usually width wise. spaced fairly close together. it allows you to bend thicker boards.
