Can anyone tell me what this black stuff pealing off of my leather is? I was cleaning off some of the rock and when I blew some water in the direction of the leather some of it pealed off.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Looks like you have some decay going on. I would blow it off with a power head or turkey baster. Increase flow to that area or move the coral to a higher flow area. Consider dipping the coral in a diluted solution of iodine. Remove as much of the debris as you can.

    Moved to----- Soft corals.

    You're welcome.

Just make sure it has good flow and you're water chemistry is in line.

Hmmm, never seen black skin peal of my finger leather, its always clear the skin that falls off mine, but thats because its shedding. Not quite sure what it is, but as Corailine said, i would also dip it, to make sure that its okay. Good luck :)
