I am new with sps and took a shot with a monti. It was a dark pink/red and had deep red polyps. Now it is kinda bland. My mom said it looked like chewed gum :/ I know my lighting is okay and my nitrates are at around 3-5. It is positioned medium-high. Here's a pic before and after..

Probably just a little too much light. Also most new growth on montis are a very light color and with that slice it will look alot more faded out as it grows until it gets bigger

How does this grow out? Will it be like a disk? I'm not exactly sure where to put it, should I just experiment? Sorry for all the questions, just new to sps.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Usually they grow out horizontally in a plate formation, sometimes you get some vertical growth.

The growth formation will be influenced by flow and lighting.

I agree with ingtar_ it might be a light issue. I would move it down a tad and then move it up slowly again.

We need specific lighting type though.

I don't need to know the name of the morph, just of it is a capricornis or something. I'll make sure to grow it though and I'll ask later :)
