I'm in the process of trying to figure out the lighting mess . Since I'm starting new with every thing I want to get it right the first time . On my 55 with the VHO's I am happy with the soft coral growth . With all the pumps and the lights on 12 hours a day my electric bill jumped up around 30 dollers a mounth . With my new 90 wich is predrilled I plan on putting the sump in the basement so I know this is going to cost me more to run the pump and now I'm looking at lighting I thought about getting a Sunpod 48" fixture with 2x250 watt HQI's . Dose anyone have this light ? any ideas how much more this will add to the E-Bill ?:eek::eek: I have read some stories about extremly high bills . Thanks for any help

MH's suck down a lot of power, cant tell you what the difference in cost is going to be but it was one of the determining factors that got me to stick with T5's in my new build

look at your current bill and find out how you pay for each kilowatt. Look at the electricity tags on all new lights and pumps to find their wattage draw. Add them up.

    Example:

    Pump 125 Watts X 24 hours X 30 days = 90,000
    Light 250 Watts x 10 hours x 30 days x 2 lights = 150,000

    Total additional Watts 240,000
To get KiloWatts, divide by 1000
    Total additional Kilowatts = 240

Multiply 240 by how much you pay per Kilowatt, and you will know the increase

mine is 8 cent per kwh.

fuzzy so you adding a 90 or your replacing the the 55 with a 90.
if it the latter i would only expect a 10 dollar jump thats including all the new eqiupment you would probably buy.

My rate is at $7.59 per kilowatt. Wait, that doesnt sound right...
Ok, one of the elec. bills I found says I used 2247 kwh. My bill was $296.14, so if you divide 296.14 into 2247 = 0.13 Luna
