He's not doing well. Hasn't eaten for the past few days. Breathing rapidly. The only fish in the tank only with snails and hermits. Best advice?

Yeah that is Cryptocaryon irritan, hmm it does not look too terribly bad.

    You have 3 choices.

    1. Leave the fish be and hope for the best.
    2. Move the fish to a QT and treat with copper.
    3. Move the snails and hermits and go hypo to 1.008 in the display. You could do hypo in QT but the fish might die before then.

If the fish dies leave the tank without fish (fallow) for 8 weeks.

    Frustrating I am sure, sorry.

Thanks for chiming in Corailline. The spots just showed up today but he hasn't eaten for a couple days. Always staying at the bottom and listing a bit. Perimeters are good except phosphates are about 1. If I moved inverts to my 40 gallon, is there a chance they could bring ich with them?

If it's moist there is the potential however slight.

It sounds like there may be something going on with your clown other than that particular parasite. Cryptocaryon affects the gills, damaging them, your clown may have had a severe outbreak in the past and has never really recovered. It could be a number of things such as internal parasites. The fish is compromised for what ever reason, listless on the bottom is a bad sign.

Corailline he seems it be breathing alot that's why ich made sense. Although, there could be another illness that I'm not aware of.

I'll do that Vinnie. I think I'll wait and see if he stabilizes then move him to a hospital tank for 8 weeks. Can you recommend a hob filter for a 10 gallon tank?
