figured i should make a thread on the construction of this.

i found a supplier near me that has the blue acrylic sheet i need 3ftx2ft for $23
i will be building the frame with 2x4s and inside the shadowbox i will have dry rock rubble with spray foam and epoxy/zipties holding it together. im going to paint the rock with spray paint (not sure on color yet... Purple? dark blue?)
behind the rock will be hardboard painted blue.
this will be lit by a RGB led strip from ikea.

im picking up the acrylic on friday so contruction starts then. ill take alot of pics of my process. wish me luck!

    Got my acrylic sheet today.
I went with a frosted peice of matte acrylic. I think it will be about the same as sanding it myself.
Did some tests on lunch and it looks like it will work awesome. Just gotta get some supplys to build the box tonight and ill be rocking and rolling.

Haha, I'm sure it'll come out awesome. I hope so anyway cause I'm gonna add this to the list for an upgrade if it does.

well got it done, but there are a few things i have to change.
brighter bulb. it looks good with the dt lights off but gets overpowered as soon as they turn on.
the front rock i put to much white on. going to repaint it.
i tried using rubble rock for the rocks but it was way to much of a pita.

When I take a pic with the main tank lights on you can't really see it.
The pics I posted really don't do it justice. But I think a t5 back there would be way better. All in all I can say its way better than my black background. Ohh and ya the fish are def checking it out lol

Looks good. Your artistic abilities are much better than mine lol. What did you use to make the "rock"? Plywood?
