Just in case you were wondering if killing aiptasia with a hypo is easy, it's not!

Yesterday when I did a water change I attacked the aiptasia I got from a frag with a syringe that Gresham gave me.

Well the damn things wouldn't die!  >:(

I stabbed them over and over again and tried to inject a highly saturated kalk solution into them.

This upset them, made them a lot smaller today, but they are still there!  [smiley=shocked2.gif]

I guess I'll need something stronger like the 50/50 acid solution Craig mentioned and I'll have another go.

I managed to remove one completely that was on a shell. But I still have two.

They are small, so this probably makes it harder.  :p

    FYI.

Matt, it doesn't just wither away in front of your eyes, it takes time. I would try Craig's solution, none the less. People have great success with juicing with solution, then coverring the bastards with super glue.

The muriatic acid will burn the external tissue on contact and makes the need to stab them in the mouth and down into the body cavity less important. As they retract into the hole in the rock it inhabits, the hole becomes the "gas chamber" that becomes the tomb rather than a sanctuary.

I'll be interested to see if you get the same great results I have Matt.

@Gresham - thought about the super glue bomb, actually tried to do it, but didn't have enough clue, most had dried in the tube it seems. ugh.

@Craig - I'll pick some up soon and let you know how it goes.

i had found 3 of them so far. I guess i got lucky with mine when they were wide open i got real close with a syrenge and shot the kalk and they closed up on it and ate it.
they ate there own poison ;)

Afraid I would not know a "aiptasia" if I saw one. :-[

I do have a couple suspicious looking little anenomes on my LR which just might be.

a very small "clear" creature with black stripped arms (?)

Couple other smaller, "greenish" with red arms on back of another rock.

    Anyone reckognize?

From discussion here, I ordered some "Joe's Juice" just to have on hand if ever needed.

When I first set up my tank last year I had a really large one of these pesky things. When I injected it with about 1 cc of B-ionics alkality solution it shriveled up and died right there on the spot. I have another aiptasia and I am planning on doing the same thing to this one. Hopefully, it will work as well.

Also, the guy at my LFS said that he has ordered something called "Joe's Juice" which is specifically made for that purpose. He said he hasn't tried it but that he has heard good things about it. I told him that I would probably just use what worked for me the last time.

By the way, I just noticed that I have been demoted to a guest. This is probably because I was always signed in before I got a new computer and I didn't log in this time. I'll have to check on that.

Okay, I'm having a hard time getting this message sent. It is telling me my username already exists. I don't want to retype this so I'll be Leesa2 this time only. I'll sign in next time.

I've heard good things about Joe's Juice as well. What is it priced at. $10 at Home Despot will get you enough muriatic acid to las three or four life times.
