    Well it finally started, I thought I would luck out but sure enough, the diatoms have started.

    I know this is part if the new tank syndrom but is there anything I can do?

    dont be upset, diatoms are good thing. youre tank is maturing and as it does diatoms will vanish on thier own. more specifically they will absorb all the silicates and starve once they have absorbed them all. so unless you are using tap water or another source of silicates to do water changes they will filter the stuff right out and perish.

    I know they aren't pretty but like said, not much you can do about them but to give it time. I think there is a CUC member that feeds on diatoms but I don't remember what :rolleyes:

    Thx. You all put a smile on my face. I knew it was inevitable but its so ugly:(lol.

    No tap water use. I only use distilled or RO/DI although silicates are found in both of those as well but its better than tap water which has so much more added to it.
