    When a skimmer is in deep water, maybe 9"+ you will have to open the gate valve more to allow the water to exit the skimmer. Eventually, the deeper you go you will reach a point where the skimmer will simply overflow even with a 100% open gate valve.The only question is where that depth is... maybe 9.5" maybe 11"?
    As the guys have mentioned it's easy to build a simple skimmer stand for inside a deep sump. PVC and egg crate (light diffuser panel) work well.

    Hey Jon I believe I am a day or 2 late but I was just informed about your skimmers. After a night of reading I am convinced you have a great item. I have a 125 gallon (~100 net with sump/LR) and medium-moderate bioload that will grow. Would you happen to have any good deals on my needed size? If not, no problem.
