Hey guys I'm looking for a decent place to find a affordable tank stand. I don't feel like paying 200+ at petco.

A stand for a 40b is almost impossible to find and if you do $200 is probably the cheapest you will find. That being said look for something on craigslist.org

+1 to that. You do not have to be super handy at building things, just remember measure twice cut once.

You can find open bottom stands that are relatively cheap. 40g should be in the 75-95 range.

I use 2 small tables I got at target for my 40gal tanks.. Works pretty well but it's short.. If your crafty you may be able to use them and modify them?

we're going to be building a 40b stand for use with a 20L sump underneath. Went to Lowe's and picked up pine 2x4s cut to size yesterday. Those will be for the skeleton, then planning on adding flat boards, doors, panels, etc afterwards.

+1 on the diy, the 2x4 frame with all the stuff to hold it in place ran me less than $25. How good you want it to look will determine how much the rest is going to be.

Oh, come on, but that's why they have the dollar per gallon sale :)

I agree 2x4s or an metal stand. I'm not a big fan of metal as saltwater is so corrosive though. Be careful about using tables and such a 40B is still 400lbs or so.
