Well i got rid of my GHA a few months ago from using a skimmer and fuge and i was clear of all algae for about a month now cyano bacteria has taken over the tank and is keeping my zoas from opening although my hard corals dont seem to mind it. Im going to switch out my lights because i think there getting old and ive just added some red slime algae killer. is there anything else i should do

You can use a cyano killing additive.

Be warned, that'll dump nutrients into the tank. The best option is to siphon out as much as you can, then use said product afterwords.

Also what do you have for flow? I found that increasing flow helps dramatically.

Red Sea Red Slime Remover does also work well but I think you will need to do two treatments to totally rid of it.

    Best of luck!

I battled cyano for the last 3 1/2 months. I tried a lot of things. I added more flow, less light, a fuge, wet skimmed, ro/di water. What seemed to work for me was using BRS's high capacity GFO in a reactor. I used 1/2 a cup and changed it out every 7 days. I had cyano on 80% of the sand & 50% on the rocks. 30 days later its down to less than 10% on sand and none on the rocks. Hope this helps.
