Can someone ID this for me? Is this a reasonable way to attach it to rock?

Looks like a finger coral and I wouldnt use rubber bands as they tend to release phos as they break down in salt water.

I dont think rubber break down will be an issue over two weeks with one frag maybee if you were doing alot, then ok.

Some type of Octocoral...Lobophyton or similar...we had another thread earlier today that dealt with the type of finger coral that they had???????? Hard to say without looking at the shape of the sclerites from the base of the coral and view under the microscope to get the true identification!!!!!

I woke up this morning and the coral was doubled over, in pain I guess? What have I done? Is this normal?

It is more then likely some type of finger coral. I know that all of my leathers and softies to not like anything on them, ie. snails, stars, etc...They will close all of their polyps and tend to shrivel...I am sure part of the problem is the rubber band...What are your water parameters?
