    The ones on corals don't last all that long. Some times they get to plauge proportions as seen in the one link, to the point of being pests.

    No, some you can catch right on the surface, as I did once on Marco Island in Florida, at a boat slip. Many are i more deeper water, some do live in the dark. Here is somemore info on their life
