So I got this clam as part of a clean up crew. The thing looks like it is a clam you would eat (at least the shell) I put it in my tank and when I woke up the next morning it was gone. I looked for him today and found him in the spot I put him only burried in the substrate. Is this normal? What is it doing?

I've actually not heard of a clam being sold as part of a clean up crew. Clams do burrow so that sounds pretty normal. Is it a cold water species?

I honestly do not know. It came as part of a clean up crew that was split with a friend. I just checked the site he got it from and they just have it listed as a cleaner clam.

Looked a bit more and it appears to be a Mercenaria clam.

You need to put the clam on something it can attach it's foot to. It is probably trying to find a hard surface to attach too.

I know what you're saying about the foot my other clam sunk himself in the substrate a little but this guy is burried and you can't even see him.. Doesn't even look like he has a foot.. Here is what I got. (found a picture online.)

Thanks! I kept him in since it came as part of the crew... Nothing I would have bought out right though considering it's burried and you can't see it.
