Well I came home for lunch today and I found the larger of my red legged hermit crabs on top of my baby gold maxima clam  and there were some of my nassarius snails gathered around the clam also, I checked the clam and the shell was empty.  It was doing great yesterday, :-/ Well my Question is Do you think that the hermit killed the clam? John

Amcarrig I am sorry to here that you had the same happen to you But it also makes me feel better to know that this does happen, one day it just looked fine and the next it was gone. I was ready to throw my hermit crab into my refugium as I have had a bad experience with crabs before ( that don't sound good ) :-[ with them Killing my coral's and fish so I just don't trust them .................................. What kind of hermits? I've never seen my crabs (hush) :) eat anything in the tank that wasn't already dead or on its way out. Maybe they go after an occassional snail but that's about it. I have both blue legs and zebra hermits in my tank and they kill each other more often than anything else. Do you fresh water dip new clams before adding them to your tank? If you don't, it might not be a bad idea to do so from here on out.
