Blue steel? Is that like a maxima or a crocea?

What kind of lighting do you have, how large and old is your tank, what are your parameters, and what are you doing For calcium supplements?

Define normal? How long has it been up? What are you doing for calcium dosing? I wouldn't get whatever kind of clam it is until after you get your lights and get an ID on the clam.

Clams take up huge amounts of calcium from the water to build their shells. Get a 6500K bulb with the T5 unit when you get it if you are going to keep clams. If you get a crocea or maxima clam make sure you have a could place to put it on your rocks at least mid height of the tank not the rocks. Both species are rock living clams.

good call. i waited over a year before I felt I was ready to try one. It's doing great (I assume, I've only had it a week). I have autodosing to keep my Ca and Alk steady and all my params are stable.

not to mention the light requirements.

Just look forward to getting one later ;)

i find that to be an excellent response pan. with that attitude, you will end up gettin a clam down the road if you still really want one.
