I'm going with the Victorian cichlids, and was wondering the best lighting set-up for the tank. bulb? color? 50/50? what's the difference. I am totally clueless in the lighting area. thanks in advance.

I wouldnt worry too much about lighting if your going for cichlids. As the only thing your likely to have in the tank apart from the fish its self is some rocks.
I find that rocks dont mind too much what lighting they are under as they are rocks. lol.

Most of the cichlid boys usually keep them under 10k's or sometimes a 10k and an actinic blue, as these bring out the best in coloration. but its pretty much a case of personal preference really.
    I had my malawi's under a single 54w 10k T8. They did great.

The fish dont need any special lighting but certain spectrums and combos of light make them look alot better. Under a 50/50 they look amazing.
