HI, I kept tropical marine tanks for years and never realised I had such fabulous marine stuff on my doorstep! I snorkel around the coast down here in NZ's South Island, where the water is pretty cool....even though it's the South Pacific! I have managed to build-up over the past year a large reef wall, with many different colour forms of the jewels...they are thriving in the tank and now starting to colonise....the tank also has urchins/nudibranch/glass prawns/hermits/starfish/tubeworms...plus heaps of stuff that emerge from the live rock that comes with the jewels attached.

I use three Eheim canister filters plus an Eheim wet/dry....do a great job with no overflow worries when I'm away...keep the tank crystal clear...I only do a 10 gallon water change weekly, (using ocean water that I collect locally).

Yes very cool tank man! Im really interested in the self collecting part. I imagine NZ and Aus have similar rules and its likely we can legally collect for home aquariums. Im going to look into this further, cause even if i had to buy a boat it would be cheaper than stocking my tank from the LFS. Any particular advice on collecting specimens yourself?
