im not really concerned about the lamp fixture being able to hold its own weight because i will be reinforcing the lamp somehow with clear fishing line. Im more concerned about the design of the lamp shade. Im worried that by covering up the heat sinks too much? I have read that the heat sinks shouldnt be covered. So i was thinking of using a small fan to blow over the heat sinks or to somehow remove much of the shade. Any ideas?

it for sure wont hold the weight. and the shade that goes around it will make the leds overheat. my heat sinks on mine get pretty warm and there completely exposed. you might be able to screw off that shade though so its just the socket.

used a dremel to cut the shades off the lamps. They work great! A lamp fixture for a Par30 bulb for less than $10! Yes Please. I Clamped them to the back of my biocube and used some clear fishing line to re enforce the lamp. The string is strung through the vents on whats remaining of the shade, than pulled back and attached to the wall. Ill post some pics soon!
