Challenging ID!

I'm wondering if anyone can help me figure out what this thing growing in my aquarium is - it's been growing for about 2 months. It's growing off a piece of live rock and appears to have a stock, or something like that. The stock is green and then the "ID" turns purple. The best way I can describe it, is that it looks like a bundle of really thick feathers.

At first I thought it was hair algae, but it never spreads. It only grows taller, thicker and bushier. I've also tried to remove it, but it doesn't seem to want to separate from the rock.

It's really hard to see, if you can get a better picture, it would be more helpful. My guess from your description is a macroalgae or sponge.

Can sponges be furry/fuzzy? This thing looks really soft!

I'll work on getting a better picture. I'm seriously terrible at taking photos, and this guy is not in an easy place!

Looks like purple coraline or a dark sponge to me... Try to focus the picture! Oh and Touch itttttt

 

It kind of looks like the second picture, but the fans look different. Mine's fans are fuller.
