Cat Fish

    Are cat fish necessary in a fresh water system ? I do weekly water changes & my tank seems to be doing well without them. I do have otocinclus for the algae.

    no catfish arent necessary. there just fish they don't provide a vital function. they just eat algae depending upon the type cat they are(i suppose thats what this post is about, specifically they are called suckermouth cats). otocinclus are catfish

    many people have species such as Corydorus in FW set ups, because they are usefull scavengers and can deal with scraps of uneaten food - but as Sostoudt states not really required as such.

    some of the smaller Cory species are actually nice looking fish IMO
