I received my BRS reactor today, and its tumbling slowly like the instruction said to. Output flow is slow, as long as its tumbling its doing its job?

Yes, that's what you want from a reactor. Slower flow allows longer contact time with the media, which means cleaner water from the return line. :)

I'm sold, the clarity of my water from just yesterday to today is amazing. Does this help with nitrates at all?

If you're running carbon, yes. Carbon absorbs DOCs which will reduce Nitrate production.

How do I know when the carbon or gfo needs to be changed?

When you see an uptick in Nitrates or Phosphates, respectively.

FTR, every product is different, and each manufacturer provides recommendations for theirs in the average aquarium. However, how heavily your tank is stocked, how much you feed, and how well you keep up with routine maintenance will determine the actual longevity of your media.
