I have a couple of these in my tank and can't remember what they are, and no, I'm not talking about the hermit crab. I saw them on some other thread awhile ago but can't find it now.

No, it's not aptasia. It's in this kind of cup thing, hard to describe, that is circular with raised ridges radiating out from the center. I can't get a pic of the cup as it faces the sand bed. I've seen these empty cups elsewhere on rocks. I'll look to see if I can find one.

Here is a pic that you can kind of see what I'm talking about. Sorry about the light colored arrows. You can just make out the clear tentacles and the white circular disc it lives in.

It would be necessary to see the skeleton (or lack thereof) and/or where your rock came from. It could be a Balanophyllia, Paracyanthus, Psuedocorynactis, etc.

The empty skeletons look exactly like the Paracyanthus ones but it doesn't have the mouth or center like the pictures of the live ones do. Here is what the empty ones look like:

The weird thing is mine looks exactly like that picture except it has the clear tentacles coming out from it, no visible mouth that I can see (unless it's clear as well).

It has a mouth....it's just hard to see. They are non-photosynthetic so that's how they get their food.

Ok, thanks. Do you know how big they get?
