Yes it makes sense John. I appreciate all of your time and attention to my concerns.

I will purchase a mag test kit tomorrow if I can find one. Most of the LFS stores around here do not carry much Saltwater or decent test kits for that matter. I have to drive quite a ways to find one that is fair and not in it to make a buck without listening to your concerns.

Anyway, I hate chemistry also. But I thik I will need to learn a bit of it to make this work for me of course.

Thank you again John. You have been very informative. If for some reason I can not find a test kit for mag in the next few days, will the tank and inhabitants be fine without any supplements for calc, alk, etc.???

Yeah, they should be OK :)

In fact have a look at some of the sponsors links you might be able to buy the kits online and have them sent to you. :)

What would you suggest for a MAG supplement if needed? I am also thinking of changing all test kits to Salifert unless you feel that Seachem is fine for all testing? I don't think Seachem makes a Mag test kit though so I may need to use Salifert for that.

    Thanks again John.

Magnessium isn't something that depletes from the water very quickly if at all, so you wont need to dose regularly. Because of this I just use Epsom Salts and it has always worked fine for me without any problems. Have a look in this page, it describes the dosing criteria ( near the bottom of the page.

I've only ever used the Salifert kits and am very happy with them. :)

Well you seem to be right on with your advice and guidance. So I will trust you and purchase the Salifert test kits. They seem t be the best out from what I hear.

I want to make sure I am using test kits that I can rely on as well.

Thank you for the link. I will read that as well and learn some more from it I'm sure.

You are a true asset to this forum John. Karma for you for being so helpful and informative. It is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you,

    Todd

Morning folks. Tank is looking more healthy today.

    Ammonia- 0
    ALK- 3
    Calc- 495
    PH- 8.1
    Trites- .1
    Trates- .1
    Salinity- 1.024
    Temp- 79.7

I am assuming that the Trites and Trates will fix themselves over the next few days as did the Ammonia??

    Thank you,

    Todd

Yup, it's all part of the denitrification process!

Good morning everyone. Update on tank...

Bad Levels have come down finally.

    Ammonia- 0
    Trites- <.1
    Trates- 1
    ALK- 3
    PH- 8.1-.2
    Calc- 480
    Salinity- 1.025
    Temp- 79.7

I did test Magnesium as you suggested John. It was at 1170. So I added some magnesium supplement last evening to raise that. I will test tomorrow to see what I am at. I also tested Strontium and it was low at 3. From what I have read, that needs to be 10-16. So I added some liquid strot. by Kent yesterday. I will test that tomorrow also.

    Thanks again for your help.
