Calcium and Alk

    Ok my calcium is finally getting to where I want it but is my Alk dangerously high?

    calcium this morning 420ppm
    alk 12-13 dkh

    if 12-13 is too high what can I do to lower it.I just my weekly water change yesterday...

    My calc is like 420 and my dkh ranges from 10-13 and I have never seen a problem.

    If you want the alk lower do not dose any alk until it is in the range you want.

    well the only dosing Ive been doing is Kalk +2 in my ATO.

    That is where your alk level is coming from. Add less in to lower your level. I would suggest not dosing from your ATO because evaporation rates vary day to day.

    as long as you're in the 8-12dkh range, i'm guessing it's fine. as long as you maintain it. problems occured in my tank when alk jumped from 8-12 in a day. burnt tips. but as others have posted in my thread and in the rest of the forum. it's about stability. if you prefer high alk, and you can maintain it there, then i'm guessing it's all good.

    Above 12 dKH can cause problems depending on the system and animals.
