Hey guys... something strange showed up in my aquarium. It started as a single entity and then it just started to multiply. There was a single one on a rock some time ago and it grew into something that looked like the head of an octopus... i'll find that picture later.

Now, I have a bunch of them in their first stage on the cord of one of my Koralia power heads.

    Here's the pic.

Tough to confirm from the pic, but looks like some kind of bubble algae?

Well... It looked like bubbles, but the colors on it did throw me off since the ones I had seen always had a light or dark green tint.
I will remove that powerhead and try to pry 'em out. If that fails, ill scrub the cable.
Let's hope that'll b the end of them.

They are really slimey inside. Don't get that in your tank water. You'll need to scrum every little speck off or it will grow back. Fwiw, it looks cool under actinics when it starts to die.

I always kind of like the looks of bubble algae, and yes, yours does look really cool under the actinics...it's a shame that it's a pest algae

I was able to clean the pump and scrubbed the cable very well, but they started to appear on the rock now... Moving on to nutrient deprivation mode to see if that takes care of it. The only thing I don't like about that is that my softies and lps coral fade a bit every time I do that :(
    It's a never ending battle!

I have 2 esmerald and a sally in there... I hope they get hungry soon. I still find the bubbles randomly on the rock and they can't be pried out without turning them to goo.
