My 30 gallon with live rock and sand is less than a month old. I have an outbreak of brown algae on the substrate and glass. Is this normal? Will it turn to green algae if left alone?

Also, do snails (or anything for that matter) take care of the brown algae, or do they wait until it's green?

The brown stuff is Daitoms probably and in about 4 - 6 weeks they will go away naturally
once all the silicates are used up

snails would consume them, but you dont need snails to deal with them as they are only around briefly

    greens may well come next
