    Brown stuff appearing on sand like algae .. new 4 weeks tank ..

    It sounds like diatoms, its a part of your cycle and they will go away shortly.

    they are diatoms or the skeletons of dead diatoms to be precise
    diatoms utilise silicates which are plentiful in new set ups
    once the majority of silicates are used up, the diatoms start dying off

    they need no attention, they will clear up all on their own but it may take between 3 and 6 weeks before they are all gone

    nothing to worry about

    I would say it is probably just a diatom bloom. It's normal for new tanks and usually clears up on it's own. Really though a picture would make diagnosis easier.

    Jeez... I took a couple of seconds to make sure my grammar was right and you all beat me to the punch LOL
