This is my first post so bare with me. I keep getting brown algae on my sand bed everyday!!!! I suck it out and it comes back like clock work. I thought maybe it was excess nutrients so i cut back feeding.... didnt work but killed my tang:( Cut back on lighting.... didnt work. Got phosgaurd.... didnt work Bought a rodi unit.... didnt work. My corals are looking bad and i feel like im killing everything and dont know what else to throw at the problem. Any ideas??????

You should just leave it there for now. It will pass. All the changes to your new system is probably doing more harm then good. Stresses your fish out. Your diatoms will pass you just need to wait it out. Your params sound good.

How long have you been using RO/DI? Are you topping off with tap?

i was going to ask if you were overfeeding but i saw that your nitrates are zero..i don't think calcium would have much to do with it..what about flow? is there any flow over the sandbed itself?

koralia is pointed right above sand bed. As far as top off ive always used distilled water never tap!!!!!! Like i said i just have no idea what could be causing the problem.

Somehow silicates must be getting into your aquarium. Maybe you keep your water in plastic containers and they leach silicates leach into the water?

try running rowaphos or some type of silicate remover..i used to use tap and had some diatom problems and running that helped quite a bit

I have tried to help jenkins figure this out and even I am at a loss. Would the deep crushed coral substrate have anything to do with this problem. Just a thought and throwing it out there.
